N’Golo Kante was one of the few shining stars for Chelsea in a relatively poor season for them as they finished 5th on the table and missed out on the coveted Champions League spot. The Blues are expected to go through a major overhaul in the upcoming season under their new manager Maurizio Sarri who is likely to be announced soon. Amongst all this hustle, their star French midfielder Kante is being linked with a move to Barcelona.
Kante played a crucial role for Chelsea in Antonio Conte’s first season where they won the domestic league title and is probably one of the most important players for them at the moment. Barcelona might have won the La Liga comfortably but they were beaten in spectacular circumstances in the Champions League quarter-finals by AS Roma last season. They have also seen their arch-rivals Real Madrid dominate European football for the past few years.
Kante was like a machine for his club last season as he made 48 appearances in all competitions and was a standout player for the Blues. However, he was let down by his other team-mates as Chelsea had a poor season last term. With the West London outfit, not playing in the Champions League, Barcelona will think that they might have an edge over signing the French midfielder.
It’s being reported that new Sports Director Eric Abidal is keen on having the Frenchman at the club and other key decision makers have also given the green signal to sign the 27 year old midfielder.
The midfielder made his name when he was with Leicester City and helped them to do the unthinkable by winning the Premier League. Kante usually tops interceptions, tackles and distance covered stats and is currently one of the best players in his position.
Barcelona will certainly have a big prospect on their hand if they manage to get Kante at Camp Nou. Sergio Busquets might be a great ball playing defensive midfielder but he has been found wanting against attacking teams and sides who have quick and agile players. Kante can certainly give them that edge in midfield and probably shield the defence better at this point in time.

However, Chelsea are going to fight tooth and nail to keep hold of the player so it won’t be easy for the Catalonian outfit to lure him to the Camp Nou. The Blues are going to go through a rebuilding phase and they cannot let go of a player of Kante’s calibre but it is highly unlikely that the Spanish giants will get their man.
