Wolves are plotting a move for Swansea City defender Alfie Mawson this summer. According to recent reports, the Swans centre-back is on Wolves’ radar as they look to improve their squad during this summer transfer period. It is believed that Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo is looking to strengthen his options ahead of the new campaign in the top tier of English football and Mawson fits the bill perfectly.
Some sources are now claiming that the Premier League newcomers are weighing up their options and could make a move for the English defender in the summer. Mawson’s future at the Liberty Stadium has been thrown in doubt following the Welsh club’s relegation from the English top-flight last season.
The 24-year-old centre-back was one of the club’s standout performers after he put in some solid displays at the back for Swansea during the course of the last campaign which has not gone unnoticed by other clubs. Wolves had been linked with Mawson in the past and are now in pole position to snap him up this summer. The Welsh outfit are demanding a fee in excess of £20m for their prized asset.
It is expected that Mawson will part ways with the Swans in the coming weeks with the Molineux being tipped as a likely destination. The London-born defender is exactly the kind of player who can flourish under the stewardship of Santo in the coming years.
The West Midlands team had managed to clinch a promotion back to the English top tier by securing the Skybet Championship title last season. However, Nuno Espirito Santo would know that he needs to add some quality players to his squad if they are to avoid getting themselves into a relegation dogfight next term.
The addition of Mawson will definitely bolster Santo’s defensive options at the Molineaux Stadium. Wolves have the likes of Conor Coady, Danny Batth, Kortney Hause, Ryan Bennett, Willy Boly and Roderick Miranda vying for the centre-back positions in their first-team. The potential acquisition of Mawson will undoubtedly improve their defence significantly and add more competition for places within the Wolves squad.

At 24, the English centre-back still has his peak years ahead of him which the West Midlands side could look to benefit from, in the next few years. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Mawson and whether he ends up sealing a switch to the Molineaux Stadium before the start of the new season.
