Wolves have secured the services of Portuguese defender Ruben Vinagre on a permanent basis. According to the club’s official website, the West Midlands side has successfully turned Vinagre’s loan move into a permanent transfer during this summer transfer window.
The Portuguese full-back, who had made 9 appearances under Nuno Espirito Santo last season, has sealed a permanent move to the Molineaux Stadium from AS Monaco on a five-year contract. The Premier League new boys have also managed to sign Leo Bonatini on a permanent deal following the arrivals of Portuguese goalkeeper Rui Patricio from Sporting Lisbon and Mexican striker Raul Jimenez from Benfica earlier this summer.
In a recent interview, the club’s sporting director Kevin Thelwell was quoted to have said, “We are delighted to secure the services of two players we rate very highly, and we believe can play a huge part in our plans for our first season back in the Premier League and beyond,”
“Ruben Vinagre is a hugely exciting prospect, and we are really looking forward to him developing further under Nuno’s tutelage.”
The 19-year-old has incredible potential and is exactly the kind of talent who can flourish under the expert guidance of Nuno Espirito Santo over the next few years. However, the Wolves youngster still has a long way to go if he wants to become a future star in English football. For now, he needs to keep his head down and gain as much first-team experience as possible in order to develop and take his game to the next level.
Santo’s team had managed to seal a promotion back to the English top-flight by winning the Skybet Championship title last season. However, the Portuguese manager would know that he needs to improve his squad this summer if they are to avoid the drop next term.
The permanent addition of Vinagre will definitely bolster Santo’s defensive options at the Molineaux Stadium. Wolves have the likes of Barry Douglas and Matt Doherty vying for the full-back positions in their first-team. Vinagre will be a great understudy for Douglas in the upcoming campaign and will undoubtedly add more competition for places within Santo’s squad.

At the tender age of 19, the Portuguese wonderkid has all the makings of a top-class fullback so it could turn out to be a major coup for Wolves in their quest to build for a bigger and brighter future at the Molineaux. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Vinagre and whether his time with the West Midlands club turns out to be a success.
