Derby County have left Matej Vydra out of their training camp amidst speculation linking him with a move to Leeds United. According to recent reports, the Rams forward has been excluded from training in Tenerife while negotiations continue behind the scenes with the Peacocks over a potential move during this summer transfer period.
The West Yorkshire outfit has already tabled a £11m offer for last season’s top-scorer of the English Championship. Some sources are now claiming that Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa is eager to make Vydra his marquee signing of the summer as he looks to build a squad capable of challenging for a promotion spot in the upcoming campaign.
It is believed that the Czech Republic international will remains at Derby’s training ground to work on his fitness as the Peacocks try to finalise his transfer to Elland Road. The Rams are desperate to part ways with their prized asset this summer mainly because the club’s owner Mel Morris wants to lower the wage bill down to around £22m.
The 26-year-old had put in some match-winning performances for the East Midlands side during the course of last season which has not gone unnoticed by the Peacocks. Vydra had featured in 44 matches for Derby last season, scoring 22 goals while creating 4 assists in all competitions. He is exactly the kind of talent who can help Leeds mount a realistic title challenge next season as he is a proven goal-scorer and knows what it takes to make the playoffs.
The West Yorkshire side had only managed to claim an underwhelming 13th placed finish in the league last term. Hence, Bielsa is in dire need of some quality acquisitions in this post-season if his team are to compete for top honours in the following campaign.
The addition of Vydra will definitely bolster Bielsa’s attacking options at Elland Road. Leeds have some top-class forwards in their ranks such as Tyler Roberts, Jay-Roy Grot, Caleb Ekuban and Paweł Cibicki competing for a starting berth in their first XI. The potential acquisition of Vydra will undoubtedly improve their team significantly and add more competition for places within the Peacocks squad.

At 26, the Czech forward still has his best years ahead of him which Leeds could look to utilise in the coming years. Only time will tell what lies ahead in the future of Vydra and whether he ends up sealing a move to West Yorkshire before the start of the new season.
