Liverpool transfer business this summer was off to a great start after they managed to land an exciting name in Fabinho, early in the window, without too many issues. However, they have failed to add a new name to their squad ever since and are continuing to sweat over a deal for French international Nabil Fekir.
The Lyon playmaker has emerged as one of the best players in his role in Europe and has been used regularly off the bench by Didier Deschamps in the World Cup in Russia. At just 24, Fekir has shown great promise in his time in Ligue 1 and has attracted interests from the likes of Bayer Munich and Manchester United in the past.
But he turned into a top transfer target for Liverpool, with Jurgen Klopp seemingly impressed with his performances in the French top flight. Last season, he picked up 23 goals and eight assists in all competitions and is touted to be a replacement for Philippe Coutinho in the first team at Anfield.
The Brazilian international completed his dream move to Barcelona in January, leaving Liverpool a bit shot in the midfield but the likes of Alex Oxlade Chamberlain, Georginio Wijnaldum and more importantly James Milner, added enough creativity to their midfield, to help them steal a place in the top four and to meet Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Kyiv.
But it is evident that Liverpool need some depth and quality added to their midfield this summer if they are to compete for the league title next season and this has seen the Reds extensively linked with a move for Fekir earlier in the window.
Various reports claimed that Liverpool agreed on a £53m deal for Fekir and already had his medical completed. It is also understood that the Anfield outfit also had an unveiling video shot with the French international but an issue in his medical saw Liverpool pull out of the deal in the last minute.
Jean-Michael Aulas Lyon’s president has since squashed all claims that Fekir was close to signing for Liverpool, affirming that the club captain will stay in Lyon for another season. Liverpool were always going to start negotiating again, especially with Klopp not looking at any alternatives and reports from The Mirror now claim the same.
It is now revealed that the Reds are ready to open talks with Lyon over a potential move for Fekir and believe that they can come to an agreement by the end of the World Cup when Fekir himself will be available for discussion.

At the moment, there is no official progress in this deal but the player is keen on a move to Anfield and Klopp is ready to wait for him. So it is more likely that the French ace will be playing for the Reds next season, than him moving elsewhere or staying put.
