Tottenham managed to get all three points after a hard fought 1-0 win over CSKA Moscow at their new stadium CSKA Arena in the group E Champions League clash. After a rather dull first half in which neither side did enough to threaten the goalkeeper, Tottenham’s superior second half performance finally paid dividends when Son’s shot from close range managed to cross the line after the keeper just managed to get a hand on it on the way through.
Tottenham climbed to second place with this win, as Monaco equalised really late to make it 1-1 against Bayer Leverkusen. Below are Tottenham’s individual player ratings in their win against CSKA Moscow.
Hugo Lloris
Rating: 7
The Frenchman didn’t have much to do. He did well to get off the line and his takes during corners especially were impressive.
Kieran Trippier
Rating: 6.5
Trippier was often caught out of position but the Russian club were unable to exploit this particular weakness. His crosses weren’t really up to his usual standards.
Toby Alderweireld
Rating: 8
Alderweireld did really well to win numerous aerial duels especially against Lacina Traore which kept the danger at bay for Tottenham. His cross-field balls helped Tottenham switch and accelerate their play.
Jan Vertonghen
Rating: 7.5
The Belgian did well to complement his compatriot at the heart of the defence. He did well to get Tottenham out of tough defensive situations and remained calm under pressure.
Ben Davies
Rating: 7
The left back was quite solid at the back. He often drifted into the central midfield to accompany Wanyama in ball distribution.
Victor Wanyama
Rating: 8
The Kenyan was everywhere and put in numerous vital challenges and interceptions. He also kept possession of the ball quite well which allowed the other player the luxury of going forward without being insecure of suddenly losing the possession.
Dele Alli
Rating: 7.5
It was his typical performance where he was a bit patchy overall but did well at vital moments. His shot from distance hit the cross-bar in the first half.
Heung-Min Son
Rating: 7.5
Son worked really hard but often ran into defenders and conceded possession. His positioning was excellent once again as he managed to get another goal for the North London outfit.
Christian Eriksen
Rating: 7
The Dane was underwhelming in the first half but grew as the game progressed. He tried his luck from distance on several occasions but failed to get his attempts anywhere near the goal. His passes became more and more incisive over the course of the game.
Erik Lamela
Rating: 7.5
Erik Lamela was always in the thick of offensive play by Tottenham. He provided Son with the assist for the lone goal from Spurs.
Vincent Janssen
Rating: 6.5
Janssen generally played with his back against the goal. He was caught offside on three separate occasions and his overall performance was quite mediocre.

Rating: 7.5
The youngster brought life to Tottenham’s attack and wasn’t afraid to take on defenders. His substation proved to be the turning point of the game.
