If latest reports are to be believed, Jack Wilshere is reportedly in Turkey to decide upon his future with Turkish giants Fenerbahce. The midfielder is set to leave Arsenal after he confirmed that he will not stay at his boyhood club as he wasn’t guaranteed regular starts in the upcoming season. The 26-year-old is set to be out of contract and there have been huge speculations regarding his future over the past few months.
The player has divided the fans as some are of the opinion that Wilshere is too injury prone to play at Arsenal and some feel he still has more to offer at the Emirates. The English midfielder was even willing to take a pay cut to stay at his boyhood club but their new manager Unai Emery wasn’t too keen on holding the midfielder.
Ever since then, he has been linked with a move to various clubs and Crystal Palace, Everton and West Ham United emerged as major contenders to sign him. It was considered that London based clubs will have an advantage over other English clubs as the midfielder might want to stay in London. So the latest developments regarding him being in Istanbul for finalizing a move to Fenerbahce will certainly make shockwaves in the English media.
Maybe it’s too soon to speculate anything and it will certainly be a huge missed opportunity for various Premier League clubs if Wilshere goes on to ply his trade in the Turkish league. He is still 26 and maybe he can discover his former best self as he looks to revive his career.
The major reason for scepticism among clubs is his injury track record but the Englishman had gone on to prove his fitness in the last two seasons. First with Bournemouth, where he joined them on loan and made 27 appearances in the 2016-17 campaign. Last season at the North London club, he made 40 appearances in all competitions and did show that he can be once again be trusted with starting in midfield for his side.
Usually, a player moves to Turkish clubs in the fag end of his career as we have seen the likes of Martin Skrtel, Didier Drogba, Robin Van Persie, all move to Turkey when their abilities started waning. Wilshere moving to Turkey will certainly be a recipe for disaster from his career’s point of view as he very well might not be picked up for England again if he decided to make a switch to Fenerbahce.
