According to latest reports, Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa is in talks with Italian Serie B outfit Carpi for the signature of their striker Jerry Mbakogu. The striker has been linked with a move to Elland Road since the January transfer window but nothing materialized then and it seems like they have renewed their interest in the Nigerian striker.
The Whites were managerless for some period and as a result, they couldn’t go in the transfer market to buy some players as they would have needed the approval of the new manager. With the appointment of Bielsa, we can expect some activity from the Peacocks in the transfer market over the next few weeks.
The Whites are looking to bring the price down of the striker as he suffered a knee injury last term and as a result, missed quite a few games for his side. He made 28 appearances in all competitions and managed 8 goals and three assists. He has been labelled as the new ‘Didier Drogba’ due to his physical presence and playing style but he has a long way to go before he can really be compared to the Ivory Coast legend.
There are other suitable and much-proven options available in the market and we look at three possible alternatives Bielsa can go after in the transfer market.
Abel Hernandez
This name has been doing the rounds for quite a while and most of the Peacocks fans are desperate to see the Uruguayan come to Elland Road. The striker has a wealth of experience in English football and has even played at the top level with Hull City. The 27-year-old missed a good chunk of last season due to injury. However, he did go on to showcase his talent in the 10 games which he played where he scored 8 goals. The Tigers have released him and the Uruguayan will be available on a free transfer in the summer.
Jack Marriott
The superstar from the League One burst into the limelight with some impressive displays for Peterborough United last season. He has all the facets to his game to play in a higher league and the Whites can take a punt on the 23-year-old. He managed 33 goals last term and was the top scorer in the league. He is young and has incredible potential which makes him the answer to the Whites goal-scoring woes.

Dwight Gayle
Probably the most ambitious prospect of the lot but the Englishman has a proven record in the Championship. However, he failed to fire for the Magpies in the Premier League last season and there is a good chance that they might part ways with the striker. The Whites can pounce on him and bring him to Elland Road to lead the line for them.
