Crystal Palace are set to extend Roy Hodgson’s stay at the Selhurst Park. They are offering him a further one-year extension which will keep him at the club until 2020. His current contract is set to expire after the 2018-19 season but given the work he did last term, the Eagles are keen to hold on to the former England manager.
The veteran joined the club when the Eagles were in dire straits as they were pointless after the first seven games. However, slowly and steadily the team showed huge improvements under the veteran manager and he brought a new sense of life to the team. The 71-year old’s appointment was met with a lot of scepticism among a certain section of the fans but everyone will agree that he has now won over the Palace faithful.
The veteran was even nominated for Premier League‘s manager of the season and that is a huge testament to the work he did at Selhurst Park. Their former manager Frank De Boer was brought in with a lot of gung-ho from Ajax and a lot was expected out of him. However, he had a shocking stint in the Premier League where he failed to register a single point with his side.
Along with an extension, Hodgson is also set to get some extra financial benefits and it is believed that he will earn a bit more than the current £2.5 m a year.
The upcoming season will be a huge test for the former England manager as it is expected that he will have less funds to work with. The Eagles are fighting tooth and nail to keep hold of their star man Wilfried Zaha and a lot will be again dependent on him in the upcoming season.
Palace had the ninth highest wage bill last season and the owners demand a cut in it so things can get really tough for Hodgson from here onwards. However, the veteran has probably seen all these situations before and has probably worked with an even tighter budget in his four-decade-long managerial stint.

The Eagles will be looking for a much better start in the upcoming season. They finished last season on a high and they will be looking to carry that momentum in the new season as well. Securing Hodgson’s future is certainly a step in the right direction from Palace as he has looked at home at Selhurst Park.
