The lack of progress at Elland Road will be of concern to the fans, going into the new season. Leeds United gave three different managers a chance to impress at the club last season but were impressed by none. They have now shown ambition to appoint Marcelo Bielsa as their new manager, which has given the fans a renewed hope.
The Argentine is a respected figure in the sport and will help the Whites to attract some top class talent this summer. He is already busy planning his recruitment for this transfer window and one player he seems to be desperate for is Matej Vydra.
A transfer target for a number of clubs in the country, Vydra has been on Leeds’ radar for quite a while now and it looked last week like they were closing in on his signature. Vydra had an impressive campaign last time around, registering 22 goals and four assists in just 36 starts across all competitions for Derby County.
He was one of the best players for the club but it was suggested that Frank Lampard, the new manager at Pride Park, was ready to let Vydra leave for a handsome sum, helping him improve other areas of the squad.
However, that deal has now hit a snag, with reports suggesting that the Rams may no longer be interested in selling Vydra in this transfer window. The story claims that Lampard had identified Bristol City star Bobby Reid as his replacement in the first team next season.
Reid managed 21 goals and eight assists in all competitions last season, troubling the best of defences, even in the cup competitions against top flight teams. He would have been a decent replacement for Vydra but it is now understood that Neil Warnock’s Cardiff City have successfully signed Reid from Bristol City.
This will leave Derby in search of another striker this summer if they let their top goal scorer from last season go. So Leeds, who were ready to cough up to £11m for his services, will now have to rethink their plans.
Pierre-Michel Lasogga was in decent form last season while Kemar Roofe and Caleb Ekuban also impressed in patches. But Vydra adds a different dimension to their attack and will allow Bielsa to stamp his system on the squad quickly.

So the Derby County man is a necessity for the Whites at the moment and they should do what it takes to land him, as finding an alternative for a player like him, in this inflated transfer market, could be a tiring affair for the manager.
