Everton target Mouctar Diakhaby has decided to give the Merseyside club a snub and he will continue his footballing career in Spain with La Liga outfit Valencia. Lyon defender was linked with a move to Everton and Newcastle United and if some reports were to be believed, then the Toffees did go on to make an official bid for the centre-back. However, the Spanish outfit made a much better bid and they are expected to sign the France u-21 international soon.
Everton are looking for a new beginning under Marco Silva and the club will certainly be having high hopes from their new manager. Silva has been brought in to play an attractive and attacking brand of football and Farhad Moshiri is willing to help him achieve that by helping him out in the transfer market. However, the latest development regarding Diakhaby will come as a big blow to them and now they might have to look at other options for replacements.
Ramiro Funes Mori has already parted ways with the club and Ashley Williams might follow him soon as well as he has commented that he is frustrated at the club. So it is clear that they will need a solid center back option and we look at three possible defenders they can go after.
Eliaquim Mangala
The defender had a loan spell with the Merseyside club, however, it was cut short soon in February as he suffered a long term injury which kept him out until the end of the season. Mangala doesn’t seem to have much of a future with Manchester City and it is likely that Pep Guardiola will look to offload him in the summer. He is still relatively young and can be a good bet for Marco Silva.
Alfie Mawson
The Swansea City defender was one of the stand out players for his side as they suffered the heartbreak of relegation last season. The defender is likely to leave the club in the summer and quite a few Premier League clubs are in the hunt to sign him. Everton can certainly benefit by having him in the ranks and he can be a long-term leader at the back for his side.
