Wolverhampton Wanderers will be looking to prepare for the challenges in the Premier League and Nuno Espirito Santo will be aware that the English top flight won’t be a cakewalk and he will need to improve his team further if he wants to establish his side in the English first division. After their financial resurgence under new owners Fosun International, they have been extremely active and smart in their transfer dealings and are now looking to make a move for West Bromwich Albion defender Ahmed Hegazy.
The Egyptian will be returning from the World Cup after Egypt crashed out in group stages and the 27-year-old is considered as one of the most saleable assets which the Baggies possess. The defender was signed last year only but he can now leave the club after just a season as West Brom got relegated to the Championship.
Both the teams had a contrasting season as Wolves were head and shoulders above everyone in the Championship and the Baggies finished rock bottom of the Premier League. As a result, they are likely to lose some of their players and Hegazy could be one of those. The defender is said to have a release clause of £10m and it is expected that the West Midlands Club don’t mind paying such an amount for the defender.
Hegazy joined the Baggies from the Egyptian league but the player was drafted into the first team straight away. He showed the fans that he was good enough to handle himself for the challenges of the Premier League and even went on to score on his debut. He played all the 38 games for his side as they got relegated to the Championship. The Egyptian was semi-decent at the back, however, with more support from his team-mates he can be a much better player.
At the World Cup, he was one of Egypt’s best player and it seems like he has done enough to impress Premier League’s latest entrants as they prepare to make a move for him.
The West Midland outfit are currently stacked with center back options as they have the likes of Willy Boly, Danny Batth, Roderic Miranda, Ryan Bennett and Kortney Hause. However, having a Premier League experience defender will certainly make a huge difference to the squad and it is expected that Hegazy will slot into the first team if Nuno Santo makes a move for him.
