According to latest reports, Leicester City are being linked with a move for Croatian defensive ace Domagoj Vida. People around the world would have noticed him recently as he and Dejan Lovren thwarted Messi and Co on their route to a famous win in the World Cup match against Argentina which ensured their qualification to the next round.
Vida currently plies his trade in the Turkish League for Besiktas where he joined in the January transfer window from Dynamo Kyiv. The 29-year-old is a veteran for his country as he has made 61 appearances for them. He made 13 appearances for Besiktas as they fell just four points short of the eventual champions Galatasaray.
Leicester City will be in need of defensive backup and they have already secured the signing of Jonny Evans from West Bromwich Albion. The club performed dismally at the back as they conceded 60 goals in the league last season and Claude Puel will be aware that his side is in need of further defensive reinforcements.
Turkish news outlet Sabah is suggesting that Vida can cost €12m and apart from the Foxes, quite a few Premier League clubs are after his signature.
The Foxes are set to lose Robert Huth whose contract will be expiring by the end of the month. Even Wes Morgan is heading towards the wrong side of thirty and last season, he was more of a liability at the back. Harry Maguire was signed with a lot of gung-ho but he took some time to settle at the club and slowly went on to establish himself. However, even Maguire has been linked with a move away from the club with some top clubs eyeing to sign the English international.
It is likely that Evans and Maguire will be the first choice centre-back pairing at the King Power Stadium next season and Vida will be used more as a backup option. It remains to be seen whether the Croatian will accept to come to the Premier League knowing he won’t be the regular first-choice starter initially.

A lot better was expected out of the Foxes last season and the pressure will be on Claude Puel to deliver with the goods in the upcoming season. They need to be more disciplined and defensively solid if they want to improve on their last season standings and Vida will certainly be a good backup option to have in defence. However, the Premier League will be a huge test for him and it remains to be seen whether he will flourish in the English top flight.
