Steven Gerrard’s appointment as the manager at Ibrox has given the fans a renewed hope of challenging Celtic’s domination in the Scottish Premiership. The former Liverpool midfielder seems determined to change the image of the club and has already made seven new additions to his squad from the previous season.
His connection with the Merseyside giants is certain to help Rangers land a few of the stars from Anfield. They have already signed Jon Flanagan on a free transfer and have landed Ovie Ejaria on a season-long loan. Both players are expected to be crucial for the club’s chances next season but will probably not be the only stars from Liverpool to play for Rangers next season.
It was reported that Gerrard is also looking to sign the exciting Harry Wilson from Liverpool but it is now understood that he has turned his attention towards Welsh starlet Ben Woodburn.
Born and brought up in Nottingham, Woodburn joined Liverpool’s academy in 2007 and did not take too long to earn a reputation at the club. He is regarded as one of the best talents in the Liverpool academy but only broke into the first team under Jurgen Klopp in 2016.
However, last season, he got just six minutes of top-flight action and will be frustrated with the lack of game time at Anfield. He is still 18 but has already broken into the Welsh national team, becoming the second youngest goalscorer for his country, after Gareth Bale. He is a crucial part of that team, at such a tender age, and is certainly a star for the future.
He is a gifted footballer, who can play any role in the attack. He is matured way beyond his age and has already gathered some experience at the highest level. He may not be ready for the rigours of the Premier League but is certainly ready to make an impact in Glasgow.
Reports suggest that Gerrard seems to be missing out on Wilson, who is wanted by a host of clubs in England. He has now turned his attention to Woodburn, who will be a superb acquisition for the Gers.
At just 18, Woodburn can even walk into the first team and will add a different dimension to the attack at Ibrox. He is already a match winner and though may take time to adjust to the conditions in Scotland, will certainly be helped by Gerrard, who has worked with him previously. He will only be available on a loan deal and will be a player who will only improve the squad at Ibrox.
