Manchester United are prepared to join the chase to sign Olympique Lyonnais captain Nabil Fekir this summer. According to recent reports, the Red Devils are interested in securing the services of the French international during this summer transfer period. The French talent was strongly linked with a move to Liverpool earlier this month but a proposed transfer collapsed at the last minute which has given hope to United to try and land the player in the coming weeks.
In a recent interview, Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has revealed that the Reds of Manchester could join the race to sign the French international in this post-season. He was quoted to have said, “I was with Jose Mourinho the other day. We had long discussions,”
Some sources are now claiming that the French giants will demand a fee in the region of £61.5m for their prized asset which could rise depending on how Fekir performs in the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
The 24-year-old had put in a number of match-winning performances for the Ligue 1 side during the course of last season which has not gone unnoticed by other clubs. The Frenchman had made 40 appearances for Lyon the last term, scoring 23 goals while grabbing 8 assists across all competitions.
United had a decent campaign last season but their accomplishments were overshadowed by their rivals, Manchester City‘s dominance at the top of the Premier League. A player of Fekir’s quality will give Mourinho’s squad a huge boost and it might go a long way in helping them bridge the gap to the Citizens in the upcoming campaign.
The Red Devils have a whole host of attacking talents such as Juan Mata, Alexis Sanchez, Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford vying for a place in Mourinho’s starting XI. The potential acquisition of Fekir will improve their team significantly and add more competition for places within the United squad.

At 24, the Frenchman still has his prime years ahead of him which the Reds of Manchester could look to benefit from, in the coming years. Fekir is also extremely versatile and can play in a number of different areas in the centre of the park. The Lyon captain primarily operates in the number 10 position but can also be unleashed as a secondary striker or down the right flank which makes him an ideal fit for Mourinho’s United team. Only time will tell what lies ahead in the future of Fekir and whether he ends up playing football at Old Trafford before the start of the new campaign.
