The managerial seat at Chelsea is due to see Maurizio Sarri replace a disgruntled Antonio Conte in the coming weeks. The former Napoli boss is already being accommodated into his future position by considering a move for Daniele Rugani from Juventus. Reports claim that Chelsea are mighty close to announcing a confirmed move as the Serie A giants are already scouting for potential replacements.
This could be a huge boost for the Blues fans even if Sarri makes his way over to the Stamford Bridge or not. Rugani is a high flying prospect in the Juventus ranks who is desperately searching for first-team football.
He is a proven talent in the European top-flight and has already been capped 7 times for Italy, 44 times for the youth sides. The 23-year-old played in 26 games for Bianconeri the last term and also contributed with 2 goals on the offensive end.
Rugani grew up in the Empoli youth ranks and made 81 appearances for the side. He was brought out by Juventus in 2013 and ever since has been considered as more of a rotational option. He made his league debut on 32 August 2014 has totalled over 67 games for the Italian giants.
Rugani is only 23 and is currently way behind Giorgio Chiellini, Andrea Barzagli and Medhi Benatia in the pecking order. This obviously needs to change very soon in order to make his case for future international selection and Chelsea can offer him an escape.
Rugrani’s talents are tragically hidden in the Juventus ranks and need to see the light of day. Standing at 6 feet 3 inches tall, the Italian has a very astute sense of positioning and reading opposition attacks early.
He might not the biggest of all centre-backs but the Lucca-born player can certainly hold his own against top-pedigree attackers. He has deservedly caught the eyes of major European outfits and could well be on his way towards greener pastures.
Chelsea currently have Antonio Rudiger, Gary Cahill, Andreas Christiansen, Ethan Ampadu and David Luiz in the centre-back position. The latter is expected to quit the Bridge this summer in hopes of more first-team opportunities elsewhere.
Rugani could fill in as a perfect replacement and as a long-term successor for the 32-year-old Cahill. Chelsea finished the 2017/18 season in the 5th spot of the Premier League and thus missing out on the Champions League.
