Liverpool are preparing a massive bid to sign Real Madrid playmaker Marco Asensio this summer. According to recent reports, the Reds are ready to splash the cash in an effort to land the Spanish midfielder during this summer transfer period. It is believed that the Spaniard was the 13th most used player by Zinedine Zidane at Madrid last season but with a new manager in the form of Julen Lopetegui at the helm, the player’s future at the Spanish capital has been thrown in doubt.
Some sources are now claiming that Jurgen Klopp’s team have made a whopping €180m bid to seal a move for Asensio. It has also been suggested that Los Blancos are currently weighing the offer and have not taken a decision on the future of their prized asset. The Spaniard’s current contract with the Galacticos is set to expire in the summer of 2023 which indicates that the club will be under no pressure to sell. Moreover, the 22-year-old has a release clause of €700m which will be a huge stumbling block for Liverpool.
Asensio had featured in 51 matches for the European champions last season, scoring 11 goals while grabbing 6 assists in all competitions. He is exactly the kind of signing who fits the Reds’ policy of recruiting young, talented players. However, it seems highly unlikely that the Merseysiders will table such a big-money bid and ignore strengthening other important areas of their squad. Only time will tell whether there is any truth to this story or is it just a work of fiction with the aim of selling papers.
The Merseyside-based team are in need of some injection of quality in this summer transfer market if they are to compete on all fronts next term. The addition of Asensio will undoubtedly bolster Klopp’s attacking options at Anfield and help them challenge for some major silverware once again in the upcoming campaign.
The Reds have a whole host of skilful midfielders such as Mohamed Salah, Adam Lallana, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain competing for a spot in Klopp’s starting XI. The potential acquisition of Asensio will definitely add more competition for places within Klopp’s squad and improve his team significantly going into the new season.
