Manchester United are plotting a summer move for Valencia full-back Jose Gaya this summer. According to recent reports, the Red Devils are hoping to secure the signature of the Spanish defender during this summer transfer period after failing to land Juventus wide man Alex Sandro. It is understood that Jose Mourinho’s side have turned their attention to the La Liga prospect as they look to address their left-back problems ahead of the new season.
Some sources have recently claimed that the Special One is reluctant to meet Juve’s high asking price of £50m for Sandro and will instead turn his attention to Gaya, who is another one of his summer transfer targets. It has been suggested that Valencia value their prized asset in the region of £30m after the defender penned a new contract recently.
The Spaniard is a Valencia youth product and has successfully made his way through the club’s youth ranks over the past few years to establish himself in Marcelino García Toral’s first-team. He has put in a number of eye-catching displays for the La Liga giants during the course of last season which has not gone unnoticed by other clubs. Gaya had featured in 38 matches for Valencia last season and has five assists to his name across all competitions.
The Mancunian team failed to land any silverware last season so Mourinho will need to recruit some promising young talents in this ongoing transfer period which can aid his side’s quest of closing the gap to their ‘noisy neighbours’ Manchester City and challenge on all fronts next term.
The potential acquisition of Gaya will undoubtedly bolster Mourinho’s defensive options at Old Trafford. The Red Devils have talented players such as Luke Shaw, Matteo Darmian, Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young and Daley Blind vying for a full-back berth in their senior side. The addition of Gaya will definitely improve their team significantly and add more competition for places within the Red Devils squad.

At 23, the Spaniard still has his best years ahead of him which Mourinho’s team could look to utilise in the coming years. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Gaya and whether United are successful in their attempts to seal a move for his services before the start of the new season.
