According to latest reports, Leeds United are planning to offer Huddersfield Town £3.6m for the services of Rajiv van La Parra. The Terriers have just signed Ramadan Sobhi from Stoke City and this has prompted Marco Bielsa to make an opportunistic leap since the 21-year-old’s arrival could reduce La Parra’s involvement at Kirklees Stadium.
The Argentine boss has already set up camp at West Yorkshire, succeeding Paul Heckingbottom to the Elland Road managerial seat. Andrea Radrizzani finally broke the chain of hiring young managers and decided to hedge his bets on a proven and well-tested candidate.
The Lillywhites should be pleased to see their head coach already making the necessary moves to improve the club’s ranks. Bringing in van La Parra will be a massive boost ahead of the upcoming season since he will a clear upgrade over some of the club’s current players.
The Dutchman appeared in 38 games for Town last season and scored on five occasions. He also set up one assist to help guide the side to Premier League safety. With a solid right foot and the pace to go along with it, David Wagner has relied on La Parra heavily over the past two seasons, mostly to win back promotion to the English top-flight.
The 27-year-old although has not exactly stood out in his first Premier League season, has certainly contributed to the cause. Van La Parra started out his playing career with Eredivisie side, Feyenoord but made his professional debut for Caen.
After playing three seasons with the French side and making 17 senior team appearances, he moved to SC Heerenveen in the summer of 2011. The winger impressed scouts from England in his home nation and even has 36 Netherlands youth caps.
Wolves picked him up on a free transfer in 2014 and was an immediate hit. He made 57 appearances and delivered with two goals and 11 assists before being loaned out to Brighton And Hove Albion. He later moved on to Kirklees and was signed permanently last summer. La Parra could make a world of difference in the Whites’ camp under a favourable head.
