Everton are lining up a move for Middlesbrough defender Ben Gibson this summer. According to recent reports, the Toffees are planning to use Muhamed Besic in their bid to land the Boro centre-back in this summer transfer window. It is understood that the Championship side are reluctant to let go of their prized asset on a cut-price deal with Southampton also interested in recruiting Gibson in this off-season.
The 25-year-old had put in a number of outstanding performances for the North Yorkshire side during the course of the last campaign which has not gone unnoticed. Some sources are now claiming that the Blues of Merseyside are prepared to let Muhamed Bešić make a switch to the Riverside Stadium in an effort to seal a move for Gibson this summer. It has been suggested that Middlesbrough manager Tony Pulis is a huge admirer of Besic’s talents and could look to sign him permanently which could pave the way for Everton to lure Gibson out of the Yorkshire club.
Gibson had made 51 appearances for the Boro last season and has one goal and 3 assists to his name in all competitions. The Merseyside club are only willing to offload Besic on a permanent basis and could opt to use him as a make-weight to recruit Gibson in the coming weeks. Hence, a deal is quite likely as it will benefit all parties involved.
Middlesbrough failed to secure a promotion spot last season and will now look to rebuild cleverly during this ongoing transfer window in an attempt to mount a realistic title challenge next term. Retaining some of their top talents like Gibson could go a long way in helping them earn a promotion back to the English top-flight in the upcoming campaign.
The 25-year-old has performed really well for the Boro in recent times and will only flourish from playing regular first-team football next term. Hence, the North Yorkshire outfit should do everything in their power to keep hold of Gibson and add more quality to their squad in the next few weeks.

At 25, Gibson still has his peak years ahead of him which the Merseyside outfit should look to utilise at Goodison Park. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Gibson and whether he ends up sealing a switch to the Premier League next season.
