Everton are plotting a move for Middlesbrough centre-back Ben Gibson this summer. According to recent reports, the Toffees are planning to use two of their players in an effort to land the Boro defender in this summer transfer window. It is believed that the Championship side are reluctant to let go of their prized asset on the cheap with Southampton also interested in securing his services in this post-season.
The 25-year-old put in a number of solid performances for the North Yorkshire outfit during the course of the last campaign which has not gone unnoticed. Some sources are now claiming that the Blues of Merseyside are prepared to let Muhamed Bešić move to the Riverside Stadium in their attempts to sign Gibson this summer. It has been suggested that Middlesbrough boss Tony Pulis is keen on recruiting Besic on a permanent basis which could pave the way for Everton to lure Gibson out of the North Yorkshire club.
Gibson had featured in 51 matches for the Boro last season and has one goal and 3 assists to his name across all competitions. The Merseyside club are only willing to offload Besic permanently and could use him to sign Gibson in the coming weeks. Hence, a deal could be on the cards as it will benefit all parties involved.
Everton had a tough league campaign last term and could only manage an 8th placed finish in the English top-flight. They would now look to bring in some new players this summer to try and improve on their league performance next season and close the gap to their Merseyside rivals Liverpool at the top half of the league table.
The addition of Gibson will undoubtedly bolster their defensive options ahead of the new season. Everton have some talented defenders in their squad which include Ashley Williams, Phil Jagielka, Mason Holgate and Michael Keane vying for a starting berth at Goodison Park. The potential acquisition of Gibson will definitely improve the Toffees team and add more competition for places within their squad.
