Manchester City does not want Leeds United target Phil Foden to go out on loan this summer as City boss Pep Guardiola remains keen on retaining the youngster’s services so that he can continue his development at the Etihad Stadium. According to recent reports, the Peacocks could miss out on the English wonder-kid with City eager to keep him for the new campaign.
Some sources had claimed that Leeds United were interested to sign Foden on a loan deal as they look to strengthen their options after the appointment of their new manager Marcelo Bielsa recently. However, it seems increasingly likely that the England Under-17 international will stay at the Etihad Stadium and continue with his development under Guardiola.
The 17-year-old was a sporadic feature for Manchester City last term with most of his appearances coming from the bench. Foden had featured in 8 matches for City last season across all competitions and has one league assist to his name. This recent development will be a big blow for Bielsa as he will now need to turn his attention somewhere else on the lookout for a new midfield option this summer.
Foden’s current contract with the Citizens is set to run out in the summer of 2020 and has a bright future under Guardiola if he can continue with his growth as a midfielder.
The Peacocks had a disappointing season and could only manage a 13th placed finish in the second tier of English football last season. They are in need to bring in some quality players who can add some depth to Marcelo Bielsa’s squad at Elland Road.
The addition of Foden would have definitely bolstered his attacking options at West Yorkshire ahead of the new campaign. Leeds have a whole host of midfielders such as Ronaldo Vieira, Eunan O’Kane, Kalvin Phillips and Adam Forshaw vying for a place in Bielsa’s first-team. The potential acquisition of Foden will undoubtedly add a lot of quality to their team and improve their squad significantly going into the new season.

However, City are not willing to do business, then it might be best for Bielsa to opt for someone else as his side is in dire need of some fresh faces who can help them mount a promotion challenge next year. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Foden and whether he ends up staying at the Manchester club for the upcoming campaign.
