Rangers Football Club have made some good acquisitions in the transfer market lately and it seems clear that their new manager Steven Gerrard isn’t mucking around and means business. The Gers board have taken a huge punt by appointing the former Liverpool midfielder as their manager as he doesn’t have a prior experience of managing a first division club.
The latest news coming out of the Ibrox is that James Tavernier who has been one of the fan favourites in the past few seasons could be sold in the summer for £3m which will give their new manager more funds to work with. The 27-year-old has been one of the few players who has performed on a consistent basis at the club and selling him will certainly not go down well among the Gers faithful.
The reports indicate that Swansea City is one of the clubs who are interested in moving for the English defender as they prepare for life in the Championship. Tavernier had a good season as he managed 9 assists and 9 goals and those are certainly eye-catching numbers for a fullback.
Tavernier has been at the club since last three years and he has racked up 140 appearances. His goal and assist tally might put some strikers to shame as he has managed a whopping 26 goals and 39 assists.
If someone would have talked about Tavernier being sold then probably the Gers faithful wouldn’t have taken it seriously and laughed about it but after the acquisition of Jon Flanagan, who was released by Liverpool recently, the deal might just go through as Gerrard has an able replacement lined up for Tavernier.
The defender signed a new contract in February this year and is set to stay at the club until 2021 but it might very well happen that to arrange more funds, the Teddy Bears might part ways with their inspirational fullback.

The Gers are currently in a positive mood as they have made some smart acquisitions in the transfer market, however, all that could be undone if they let go of Tavernier. Flanagan is certainly an able replacement as he has a decent amount of Premier League experience but the attacking outlet which Tavernier provides, the former Liverpool defender isn’t likely to match that. Maybe Gerrard can use Tavernier further up the pitch to exploit his attacking prowess more and he might start down the right side of midfield next season. £3m will be a tempting offer, so it remains to be seen what the future holds for the player.
