Premier League outfit Leicester City have registered an interest in signing Hertha BSC’s defender Marvin Plattenhardt. People around the world would have noticed him recently as he made an appearance for Germany in their defeat against Mexico in 2018 World Cup. The defender got the chance as the regular first-choice option Jonas Hector was out of the first game due to illness.
The left-back had an impressive season in the Bundesliga and as a result, he was one of the surprise inclusions in Joachim Low’s squad for the World Cup. Plattenhardt is known for his pinpoint crosses and set-piece deliveries and is really handy down the left when charging forward.
The Foxes finished 9th last season as they failed to gather any sort of momentum throughout their campaign. Their season was marred with inconsistencies and Claude Puel will be looking to rectify that. The French manager had a poor end to the season and there were rumours of him getting the sack but Leicester City decided to stick around with him.
Reports suggest that the Foxes recently made an enquiry for the player and apart from them, Everton and Watford are also said to be interested in signing him. However, Watford might just be out of it as they recently secured the signing of Adam Masina from Bologna who is a left back.
A fullback is not an immediate requirement for Claude Puel as he already has decent options like Christian Fuchs and Ben Chilwell at his disposal. However, they might move in for the German defender keeping in mind the long-term future as Fuchs has recently announced that he will move to New York City to be with his family after his contract at King Power Stadium runs out in 2019.
Puel will be under pressure to deliver next season and if things don’t go according to plan, he might get the sack as he was close to being replaced after the end of the last season.

Plattenhardt is still just 26 and will be a great long-term prospect to have. He was influential for his side last term as he provided 8 assists and has a vicious left foot which will keep the opposition defenders busy. However, he still needs to improve on his defensive abilities and it can very well happen that Puel might end up using the German in a much more advanced position to exploit his attacking talents.
