According to latest reports, Nice’s star midfielder Jean Michael Seri is now being targetted by West Ham United and if the reports from Italy are to be believed then the Hammers are closest in terms of securing a deal for the player. This will come as a surprise for many as Premier League heavyweights like Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea have been linked with him and even Serie A runners-up Napoli were in the hunt to sign him.
The East London outfit are looking for a new beginning under Manuel Pellegrini and the Chilean manager has already secured some impressive coup in the transfer market and if he manages to pull this off, Seri will certainly be the biggest of them all.
It is believed that the Hammers have made a concrete offer for the 26-year-old and it remains to be seen what will be Nice’s response. The midfielder has a release clause of £35m and it is very much expected that he will be leaving the French outfit in the summer. The Ivory Coast international racked up 43 appearances in all competitions last season and was the backbone of his side in the middle of the park.
Pellegrini will be looking for an able option in midfield as the club captain Mark Noble had a below-par season. The veteran is now 31 and playing in the middle of the park in the most demanding league will certainly take a toll on him and it is an absolute necessity for the Chilean manager to bring in a proven midfielder who can control the tempo of the game and bail his team out defensively every now and then.
West Ham had a poor season last time around as they got dragged in the relegation battle. However, they came through it comfortably in the end and they will now be looking to challenge the big boys of the Premier League under their new manager.
The signing will certainly be a major boost if the East London club gets their man ahead of much-fancied teams like Arsenal, Chelsea and Napoli but nothing is certain as of now.
