Watford are looking to prepare for the upcoming season and their defence has been one of the major areas of concern last season as they let in 64 goals in the Premier League. Only West Ham United and Stoke City conceded more goals than them and it is clear that Javi Gracia will have to sort out the problems at the back to improve his side for the upcoming season. To achieve that, the Hornets have signed Bologna’s impressive fullback Adam Masina who recently completed his medical and the official announcement will be made on July 1.
The deal is said to be worth £3.5m. The Italian defender was entering in the final year of his contract and the Italian outfit Bologna decided to let him go to England to continue his footballing career. The left-back is a former Italian u-21 international and had shown good promise in the Serie A.
The defender broke into Bologna’s senior team when he was just 19 and has gained a good amount of experience now that he is 24. He still can go on to improve his game further and the Hornets certainly have a good prospect in their hand.
The Hornets had a dismal second half of the season and they eventually ended up finishing 14th when once it looked like they will easily finish in the top half of the table. Their start to the season was under Marco Silva and the Portuguese manager did a good job until Everton came calling for him. The Hornets board accused the Merseyside club of unwarranted approach for their manager and the team performance fell during that time and as a result, Marco Silva was shown the door.
Javi Gracia now has the chance to stamp his authority on the side and he has already secured some decent players in the transfer market. Masina will certainly be a good addition to the squad as he adds a perfect balance of youth and experience to the squad. He is highly regarded in Italy and was once linked with a move to Italian heavyweights like AS Roma and Napoli.

The 24-year-old has good energy and pace and will certainly add an attacking threat down the left. He can play in a more advanced position as well and it remains to be seen where the Italian fullback will be slotted into the playing eleven as Garcia has the likes of Marvin Zeegelaar and Jose Holebas vying for that left back spot as well.
