David Wagner has done a brilliant job to keep the Terriers in the top flight, in what was their first Premier League campaign for decades. The German tactician has got the side to play a disciplined brand of football, that can beat even the best of the teams in the country on their day.
So it does not come as a surprise that they are looking to take a step further in the points table next season and are now looking to add some quality to their first team, to help them do the same. One such player they are now interested in is Belgian international Anthony Limbombe.
Having already added Ramadan Sobhi to his squad, Wagner is looking to improve other areas of the squad and seems determined to land Limbombe to his side this summer.
The 23-year old broke into the senior side at Genk as a 16-year-old, and in his four years at the club, he won a couple of trophies, also gaining European exposure as a teenager. He earned a move to NEC in the Netherlands, where he helped the club to a promotion to the Eredivisie in his first season in the country, scoring 14 goals for his side.
He also picked up seven goals and seven assists in the next season in the top flight and established himself at the highest level, before moving back to Belgium with Club Brugge back in 2016. He helped Brugge to a league title in the last season, his second at the club, showing that he is ready for the biggest stage.
He also broke into the Belgian national side, making his senior debut earlier this year. He is tagged as a ‘modern-day winger’ who loves take on his man on the flanks. He is a gifted footballer with great feet and technique. He is versatile, can play as a winger or as a forward, and can create chances consistently.
At just 23, he has already established himself at the highest level and his understanding of the game and the confidence he has in his abilities makes him a real dangerous player. Wagner’s men struggled last season due to lack of width, as they failed to break down teams in the lower half of the table. But they managed to hold on to their top-flight status and want to solve every issue in the squad this summer.
