Marco Silva’s appointment at Everton has given the Toffees renewed hope after a season they will want to forget quickly. The former Watford manager is now looking to add players to his side that fit into his system well and this has seen a number of star players extensively linked with a move to the Merseyside this summer.
One such player they are working hard on a deal for is Gelson Martins. A transfer target for the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal, the 23-year old is currently busy in Russia with the World Cup but is expected to be on the transfer market before the start of the next season.
He is a part of the long list of first-team stars at Sporting that have decided to terminate their contract with the club after being assaulted by their own fans on the training ground. This has seen a number of exciting players put up for grabs on free this summer and Martins is one player Everton are after.
A versatile attacker, who can play on the wing or through the middle, the 23-year old rose through the ranks at Sporting and made his senior debut back in 2015. He broke into the national side just a year later and has been crucial for the club’s chances in the top flight.
He picked up 11 goals and nine assists in all competitions last season for Sporting, in what was his most productive season in the top flight. And at just 23, he is only going to get better and is a decent option for Everton.
Known for his pace, agility, and technical prowess with the ball at his feet, Martins is a smart player, constantly in search of space. He loves to dribble past opponents but is equally adept at helping in build-up play, making him an all-around player.
He is a talisman for the Sporting side and can make things happen out of nothing. He is also a hard worker, who loves to throw himself around on the park but is prone to giving away needless fouls. But at his age, he is an absolute steal for Everton, who will still have to pay a tribunal fee to the Portuguese giants for his services.

The Toffees have a number of first-team players in similar, versatile roles, that have failed to make an impact on the first team last season. So Silva is convinced that he needs to add some quality to his side and Martins will do the trick. He is an upgrade on a couple of names in the side, will walk into the first team and can be a match winner for Silva for years to come.
