The run into the final of the Champions League last season has now made Liverpool one of the most exciting projects in Europe. Though it may yet be a one-time thing, Liverpool are definitely a team on the rise and Jurgen Klopp is determined to help them get back their glory days.
So it does not come as a surprise that he is desperate to add some quality to his first team this summer. He has already signed a midfielder in Fabinho from AS Monaco but missed out on the services of Nabil Fekir. Liverpool may yet land the French international but that has not stopped them from being linked with other stars in Europe. One such player, now on Liverpool’s radar is Corentin Tolisso.
The 23-year old, who joined Bayern Munich just last summer from Lyon, had previously spoken about his admiration of Steven Gerrard and reports now claim that playing at Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp is a ‘dream move’ for him. He cost Bayern Munich just over €40m and the Reds would probably have to pay over it to land him this summer. So is he an option Liverpool should target?
Born and brought up in Tarare, the 23-year old broke into Lyon’s senior side back in 2013 and in just a season, he turned into a mainstay in the first team. He made a minimum of 30 Ligue 1 appearances in three of the four seasons at Lyon before he joined Bayern Munich last summer.
He also broke into the national side last season and has already turned into a crucial part of the team under Didier Deschamps, after an impressive 10 goal season with the German giants. He managed just 17 league stats in Germany last season and will probably get more if he moves to Anfield.
A central midfielder by trait, Tolisso is a box to box midfielder, who is a busy player in the middle of the park. He is adept at breaking up play, setting his team up on attacks while his ability to hold on to the ball even under pressure and wriggle away, makes him all the more dangerous.
He draws fouls in dangerous areas, is not afraid to carry the ball in the final third but is also equally effective dropping deep to help out his backline. He is a complete midfielder but unfortunately, is not what Liverpool need right now.
They have signed Fabinho for a similar role and will welcome Naby Keita who will add more stability to the midfield. Tolisso is a star on the rise and could be an option for Liverpool in the future. But in the transfer window, Liverpool are after more creative players and have no real place for Tolisso in their first team.
