Despite promises of a much-awaited Premier League promotion under Garry Monk a couple of seasons back, the Whites had a massive disappointment the last term that saw them returning to a mid-table spot in the Championship table. Monk’s decision of stepping down proved costly as neither Thomas Christiansen nor Paul Heckingbottom managed to script a similar upsurge. But Andrea Radrizzani, club’s Italian owner, has been running the club in a constructive way and his decision of appointing iconic Marcelo Bielsa as their new chief must excite the Leeds United fans after years of anguish.
Bielsa, the highest paid manager in Leeds history, is likely to be handed a £20m war chest to rebuild the lineup and recruiting a new custodian seems to be a priority. Felix Wiedwald, the 28-year-old German custodian, had a dreadful season following a high profile switch from Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen last summer and has officially moved to Eintracht Frankfurt.
Andy Lonergan, his deputy in West Yorkshire, has been erroneous as well and Heckingbottom, their previous boss, opted to promote academy prodigy Bailey Peacock-Farrell between the sticks ahead of his first-team options towards the end of a dismal 2017-18 season.
Leeds, meanwhile, are keen on bringing in a new custodian and Angus Gunn, the 22-year-old Manchester City youngster, remains one of their prime transfer targets before the inception of the upcoming campaign. The starlet who joined the Citizens back in 2011, enjoyed a successful loan spell last season with Norwich City and earned a senior call-up in Gareth Southgate’s England squad back in November.
Although he has a couple of years left in his current deal in Manchester, the reigning Premier League champions are unlikely to offer him a first-team action anytime soon with Ederson and Claudio Bravo in goal. Another loan move, therefore, is extremely likely for more minutes in senior football.

The 6’5” keeper is known for his great reflexes, shot-stopping traits and close-range saves along with calmness and composure one-on-one. Gunn will be a man in demand among several Championship outfits, but the influence of Bielsa will hand the Peacocks an added advantage to loan in the Manchester City prodigy. Pep Guardiola, the current boss at Etihad, declared the 62-year-old Argentine as “the best coach in the world” who is still regarded as a pioneer of modern football. A deal for the young keeper, therefore, is reasonable as well as realistic and should be considered as the start of something significant in El Loco’s regime.
