Manchester United have one of the strongest squads in England at the moment but Jose Mourinho is not totally convinced with the options at his disposal and wants to improve on certain areas in the squad, that have pulled them down last season.
While a centre-back is of utmost importance for the Portuguese tactician, Mourinho is also in need of a winger this summer. The Red Devils used the likes of Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Marcus Rashford on the wings till Alexis Sanchez arrived. But none of those names, even the Chilean, are natural wingers and have time and again struggled to provide width in the attack against teams that like to sit back and defend.
So Mourinho has been trying to add a wide-man to his attack since January and has his eyes on Brazilian star Willian. A mainstay in the Brazilian national side, Willian joined Chelsea in 2013 as one of the first players to join the club under Mourinho, who was in his second stint at Stamford Bridge.
He took no time to impress, making an immediate impact winning the league title in his first season. He repeated the feat in 2017 and was named Chelsea Players’ Player of the Year last season. However, he was constantly overlooked by Conte, who gave him just 20 starts, but Willian registered six goals and seven assists in the domestic league, also bagging the Goal of the Season award for the Blues.
A pacey winger, happy to take on his man with every opportunity, the 29-year old has a Brazilian flair, getting the better of opponents with his swift turns and feints. He is an excellent crosser, a decent finisher and a genuine match winner on his day and is one of the toughest wingers to mark in the English league.
He rarely puts average performances in big games, never shies away from responsibility and is perfect for Mourinho’s style of play. United were desperate to land him in January this year but Chelsea were reluctant to sell. But he has just a couple of years left on his contract with the Blues and reports suggest that Mourinho is ready to tempt his former club with a bid of £60m, which will be hard to reject.

Chelsea are set to get a new manager in Maurizio Sarri and if Willian is interested in a switch to Old Trafford, the Napoli boss might not stand in his way as the price he fetched can be reinvested in the squad.
For United, he will add a different dimension to their attack and will make them more complete, helping them take the next step to glory.
