Jose Mourinho’s second season at Manchester United showed no real progress from his first at the club and the fans will now be anxious as to how he can take them back to their previous best. The Portuguese tactician is convinced that he does not have the strongest squad possible at his disposal and is looking to spend big, yet again this transfer window.
They have already signed a couple of exciting stars but continue to be linked with a number of attractive names for a move this summer. One such player, who they retain an interest in is Toni Kroos.
The German international, who is crucial to the country’s chances in the World Cup in Russia, is widely regarded as one of the best midfielders in the game at the moment. He started his senior career with Bayern Munich, winning three league titles in Germany, before joining Real Madrid in 2014. He was a part of the squad that won the FIFA World Cup that year and has backed it up with three Champions League titles and a league title in Spain.
With excellent control, great vision and even better technique, he is a midfield maestro, who loves to control the game. He was crucial in all three UCL finals that they managed to win while also standing as one of the most consistent players in La Liga for over a couple of years now.
He is now 28 and has loads of experience under his belt. He also is a born winner, tuned to never give up, even in the tightest of spots. His approach to the game is impressive and his influence in the dressing room is hard to explain. He is exactly the kind of players that the squad at Old Trafford lacks at the moment and there is no reason why Manchester United should not go all in for him.
A story from Spain now claims that Pep Guardiola has made the German midfielder a top transfer target for his side this summer. He is reportedly ready to cough up to £60m and at that price, Mourinho will certainly be interested.
The former Real Madrid manager missed out on working with Kroos, who joined a year after he left Bernabeu. But the German’s abilities are exactly what Mourinho needs in his side, making him a decent acquisition.

United have spent on Fred this summer while Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba are other options in the midfield. Marouane Fellaini is expected to quit the club this summer while Michael Carrick has called it quits. Ander Herrera is the only other midfielder and Toni Kroos is a natural upgrade on him.
A midfield of Kroos, Matic and Pogba is world class and will certainly help United challenge for every trophy next season.
