West Ham United are looking to part ways with 29-year-old winger Michail Antonio. It is understood that Antonio is not in the long-term plan for the new manager Manuel Pellegrini and one doesn’t see the Englishman having a future at the East London club. However, Antonio is likely to continue playing in England as he is monitored by various Premier League outfits including Crystal Palace.
Antonio’s time with the Hammers was disrupted with injuries last season and he missed 26 games for them. He made 21 appearances in the Premier League and managed 3 goals. He joined the East London outfit in 2015 and has been a crucial player for his side whenever he has been fit. He even went on to win Hammers’ player of the season in the 2016-17 campaign.
The 29 year old started out as a right back but his attacking prowess and speed made the manager and coaches realise that he can be used further up the field. He popped in with some crucial goals every now and then when he was available and Pellegrini will be looking to replace the winger with other viable options. We look at three players which the Chilean manager can target to replace Antonio.
Cristian Pavon
The Argentine international has been linked with a move to the Olympic stadium and he will certainly be a top addition to West Ham’s squad. He is currently in Russia for the World cup and the Boca Juniors star had an outstanding season in his homeland where he managed 7 goals and 17 assists in 31 games. A good World Cup might ensue other clubs to join the race for him so Hammers shouldn’t wait much after the World Cup to bring the Argentinian to England.
Bertrand Traore
The former Chelsea winger was sold to French heavyweights Lyon last season and he has set the Ligue 1 on fire with his performances. He managed 18 goals and seven assists and Hammers can move in to bring him back to England. He has a bit of experience in the Premier League as well as he made 16 senior team appearances for the Blues.
