Leeds United, a club once considered as European heavyweights, witnessed a massive downgrade in past decade and the administrative oversight saw the Whites becoming a mere Championship midtable outfit. However, the supporters have seen a ray of hope in past couple of years following the takeover of Italian business Andrea Radrizzani who exhibited his passion, intelligence, and constructive foresight on Leeds’ future with a view to re-establish them as an admirable Premier League force once more.
The Peacocks narrowly missed out a playoff place last year but the fans had reasons to cheer after years of despair and disappointment. However, Monk’s decision of stepping down as Leeds boss came as a shock and the supporters, who are dreaming of a new dawn, started fearing the return of yet another turbulent phase. Little known Thomas Christiansen was gambled to succeed the Swansea City legend but failed despite a bright start and his dismissal saw the ex-Barnsley boss Paul Heckingbottom grabbing the managerial commitment at Elland Road back in February.
He, too, had an underwhelming four months where he managed only four wins but the decision of sacking Heckingbottom without handing him one full season to impress saw Radrizzani being criticized by one section of Leeds supporters.
Meanwhile, the Italian already decided his next move and the availability of iconic Marcelo Bielsa saw him going full throttle to convince the 62-year-old Argentine to clear the mess of last season. The former Albiceleste and Chile chief had a fruitful conversation and his appointment as the new boss now hands the dejected fanbase of Leeds every reason to cheer loud. El Loco, who is adored as the pioneer of modern football, had a chaotic conclusion at Marseille, Lazio and most recently Lille – yet the legacy of the great man has already made the Peacocks a promotion contenders as soon as the official announcement on Friday morning.
The odds have increased significantly following his appointment as the bookies are now reckoning Leeds as the promotion contenders drawing an end to their Championship drought. They were as long as 14/1 to win the title as per William Hill and there were only seven teams having shorter odds to attain the same. But the Whites are now having a 10/1 – making them joint third favourites to claim the glory alongside Middlesbrough and relegated top-tier outfit Swansea City. Only Stoke City (6/1) and West Brom (8/1) – the other two demoted Premier League sides are having better chances of securing an immediate return winning the title.’
