Amid all excitement of the ongoing World Cup football, clubs are actively assessing the transfer market to strengthen for the upcoming campaign and be prepared enough to meet their respective season objectives. Rangers, the Glasgow heavyweights, have a point to prove now against great rivals Celtic who conquered a ‘double treble’ in past two seasons under ex-Liverpool gaffer Brendan Rodgers despite the Light Blues return to the top tier of Scottish football.
The Gers have been humiliated time and again during the Old Firm derbies in recent years but the appointment of iconic Liverpool and England midfielder Steven Gerrard as their new boss has unlifted the spirit at Ibrox implying the start of something significant following years of darkness.
Gerrard, who will be contesting the former boss of his final years of Liverpool realm, will be having a monumental job of reconstructing the squad and make them competent enough to dethrone the Hoops who are currently on a run of seven successive Premiership titles. A couple of defensive recruitments in Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic signifies Gerrard’s desperate attempt of fixing the backline that leaked too many goals last term and the Gers’ activity in the transfer market indicates there are more new names to be added before the completion of the summer window.
Rangers, meanwhile, require attacking inclusions as well and should consider a bid for Peterborough United striking sensation Jack Marriott who is a subject of interest of several Championship sides.
Derby County, Bristol City, and Nottingham Forest – all are reportedly ready to be involved in a bidding war for the 23-year-old striker but yet to meet the valuation of the League One side claimed by club’s chairman Darragh MacAnthony. The summer signing from Luton Town excelled sensationally and netted 33 goals in 56 outings altogether in his maiden campaign for the London Road club. The prolific goalscorer made it to the PFA Team of the Year: 2017–18 League One and has done enough to earn a bigger move.
