Tottenham Hotspur are currently monitoring Borussia Dortmund‘s midfielder Mario Gotze situation over a potential transfer move to England. The 26 year could be available for as little as £18m and quite a few Premier League clubs have shown interest in bringing in the former World cup winner.
Gotze shone into the limelight with Borussia Dortmund when Jurgen Klopp was in charge and he reached the pinnacle of his career when he came on as a substitute in the 2014 World cup final against Argentina and scored the winning goal, etching his name in history. However, he has seen his career spiral down since then as he moved to Bayern Munich where he failed to establish himself under Pep Guardiola and was a fringe player at his time with the Bavarians.
He went on to rejoin his former club Dortmund to regain his lost form and pride but he has struggled with fitness and injury issues in his second stint at Signal Iduna Park. He was diagnosed with a metabolic disease which causes fatigue and weight gain. His footballing career was once said to be over but Gotze went through rehabilitation and came back to first-team football. He made 32 appearances for Dortmund last season and managed 2 goals and seven assists.
His form has been below par and now he might be sold by the Bundesliga heavyweights. Spurs are considered as long-term admirers of the 26-year-old and now that he is available on the market, they are being linked with a move for him. It remains to be seen whether Mauricio Pochettino will go after him in the transfer market as he looks to put up a formidable challenge on all fronts for the next season.
However, the move can turn out to be a risky one as Gotze is on a decline and even failed to make Germany’s squad for Russia.

Spurs are blessed with creative midfielders currently as they have the likes of Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen and it is likely that Gotze will be used as a squad player next season. However, Spurs are set to challenge on all fronts as they will be competing in European competition so having squad depth is going to be a must. If the German continues to work hard and get back to his previous best, the £18m price tag will certainly look small for him. Maybe Pochettino might be able to extract the best out of him and he can set him on the path of resurgence.
