Watford are on the move in the transfer market under Javi Gracia and they have now secured another signing in Marc Navarro who played as a right back for La Liga Outfit Espanyol. They have already signed the likes of Gerard Deulofeu, Adam Masina and Ben Wilmot and it seems clear that Gracia means business in the upcoming season.
The Spanish right-back impressed for his club last season. He made 24 appearances in all competitions and provided one goal and two assists. The defender has signed a five-year contract with Watford. The 22-year-old was part of Barcelona youth system before he left them in 2011. Since then, he has been with Espanyol and slowly went on to play for their senior team.
Navarro is just 22 years old so he still has a lot of potential and can improve further. The right-back can even fill in the role of a centre back as well. He has a good technical ability on the ball and that will allow the gaffer to play from the back as Navarro is comfortable with the ball on his feet.
Watford’s Chief Executive & Chairman Scott Duxbury said,”Marc has attracted interest from a host of top European clubs, therefore we are delighted to have secured his services.”
The Hornets had a bright start to the season under their former manager Marco Silva but allegedly his head started turning as Everton tried to approach him after they sacked Ronald Koeman. Since then, Watford’s form went downhill and they ended up sacking Silva.
They appointed Javi Gracia but the Spaniard didn’t manage to get consistent results out of his team and they were dismally poor in the latter stages of the season. They ended up finishing 14th when once it looked like they will easily secure a top half finish. One of the major cause for concern for the Spanish tactician will be his side’s leaky defence. They conceded 64 goals in the league last term and that certainly needs to be rectified.

The Hornets currently have Daryl Janmaat and Kiko Feminia as options in the right back spot and the latter is the one who is preferred out of the two. Gracia can deploy Navarro in the centre back role as well as that is one of the positions which the team has struggled with. It remains to be seen whether the 22-year-old Spaniard will be able to adjust his game to the demands of English football and flourish at Vicarage Road.
