According to latest reports, the deal regarding Martin Skrtel to Rangers could be back on with a little bit of a twist. Reports in Turkey suggest that Fenerbahce could be after Alfredo Morelos and to have him, they will be willing to trade in Martin Skrtel and some cash to lure the Columbian striker to Turkey.
The Turkish giants lost the services of Vincent Janssen who is back to his parent club Tottenham Hotspur and are looking for a striker to replace him. The Turkish outfit have been impressed with the Colombian as he managed 18 goals and 8 assists in his first season.
However, Skrtel’s wages can still be an issue as he is reportedly earning £3.5m a season after tax and it is clear that Skrtel will have to take a pay cut if he wants to play under his former captain. The chapter was seemingly closed when Skrtel’s agent confirmed that there is a lot of disparity in their wage demands and it remains to be seen whether the Gers will be willing to offer him more now that there seems to be a chance of signing him again.
Meanwhile, the Teddy Bears have gone on to secure the signing of Connor Goldson from Brighton and Hove Albion and it is expected that he will start in the centre back role at the Ibrox next season. They deal was said to be around £3m mark and it remains to be seen whether the Gers will blow up their transfer money to land yet another centre back.
It is clear that Gerrard has been able to identify their problems at the back as the Gers had the worst defensive record among the top seven clubs in the last season and the signing of Goldson will certainly bring more strength and stability. Signing Skrtel will make the partnership formidable but the Gers need to be smart in their transfer dealings as they also need to look at other areas for improvement.

Gerrard cannot afford to lose Morelos without an able replacement in mind as he is one of the few genuine out and out goalscorers that the Gers squad has. Yes, there were instances when he let down the team with his poor finishing but he is still young and he did manage to have a decent first season in the Scottish Premiership. There is still no solution for Skrtel’s wage demands and it remains to be seen whether Rangers will take the deal for the defender by trading in Morelos and some cash.
