Tottenham Hotspur have been handed over a massive boost in their pursuit for AC Milan winger, Suso. Atletico Madrid dropped out of the race after confirming a £52.7m switch for AS Monaco’s Thomas Lemar. Now Spurs only have Liverpool to beat and could do so by paying the Spaniard’s £44m (€50m) release clause.
Jesús Joaquín Fernández Sáenz de la Torre, also known as Suso is a graduate of the Liverpool academy and was sold off to AC Milan in the summer of 2014 for just £1m. The 24-year-old has set himself up in the Milan ranks and is lighting up the Serie A with his skills on the ball.
Suso has wonderful footwork when on the ball and can stretch the floor by appearing from the wings. He has a lot of attacking pedigree which was witnessed last season through his 8 goals and 14 assists in 50 appearances across all competitions.
Standing at 5 feet 9 inches tall, the Cadiz-born player knows how to operate from tight spots and is capable of formulating plays of his own. Suso could be a prime addition on the Tottenham right wing but the club already has that in Erik Lamela and Moussa Sissoko.
Mauricio Pochettino also prefers to switch Christian Eriksen or Dele Alli onto the wings when required, leaving almost no space for Lucas Moura or the aforementioned duo in the starting XI.
We are all aware of the moves Pochettino is trying to make in order to turn his team into a title-winning side. The Argentine boss missed out on silverware yet again last season by losing to Manchester United in the FA Cup semi-final.
Spurs finished the 2017/18 season in the fourth spot of the Premier League and thus grabbing the last spot in next season’s Champions League. They had a strong showing last term by upstaging Real Madrid to the top of the group stage, despite lacking in overall experience.
They eventually lost out to Juventus in the round of 16 through just one defensive slip-up. Their progress from just a European qualification spot contender to a title-challenging side has been noticeable of late.
Pochettino has just recently signed a long-term contract with the North London club and is looking to build on his past season success by strengthening the squad. He will have to deepen the squad if he is to match the likes of Manchester City or Manchester United next season.

However, Suso could also be surplus to their requirements unless Lamela quits the side as Pochettino already has enough firepower in his squad for the said position.
