Latest reports claim that Celtic have been keeping tabs on Peterborough striker, Jack Marriott along with rivals, Rangers FC. However, the League One outfit’s £5m valuation for the attacker has knocked the Gers out of the race for his signature. Brendan Rodgers can take a closer look into the 23-year-old’s prospects who will come at half the price of Odsonne Edouard.
The Scottish giants are amidst negotiations with Paris Saint-Germain over the permanent signing of Edouard this summer. Rodgers is ready to break the club record fee to get him but is also looking into alternative options, as security for PSG’s hesitation.
Edouard has done well for the Hoops during his loan spell away from the French capital last season. He struck the back of the net 11 times and set up 4 assists in 29 all around appearances.
The Celtic faithful are pleased to see their third choice forward stepping up to the occasion when called upon and would like him to join the squad permanently. The 20-year-old still has the years in front of him to develop into a top quality attacker and could someday be the man to replace Moussa Dembele, if the latter gets transferred off somewhere.
However, there is also a distant possibility that PSG’s valuation for the striker could prove to be way too high for the Bhoys. After all, the Scottish outfits do not enjoy the same financial backing as clubs from the north side of the border.
Marriott will be cheaper and could almost be considered a more finished product. The 23-year-old scored an astonishing 33 goals last season in his 56 appearances across all competitions. He also set his teammates up with 5 assists to be marked as one of the best talents in the English third division.
The Beverly-born started his playing career with Ipswich Town and made his professional debut on 4th May 2013 in the side’s 2-0 away defeat to Burnley. The 23-year-old earned high praises from his academy coaches for his composed finishing abilities and upper body strength to hold up the ball.
Marriott came into his own at Luton, scoring 16 goals in 44 appearances and subsequently getting bought out by the Posh on a 4-year contract. The Englishman moved to the ABAX Stadium last summer and could already be on his way out of the club if his asking price is paid off.

Celtic will be getting a well-tested product for relatively cheap in this market. However, the player might not agree to a backup role behind the likes of Dembele and Leigh Griffiths, which might be a stumbling block in materialising the move.
