The distasteful assault at the Sporting Lisbon training ground against the club’s very own players has set off a chain of unfortunate consequences for the club. Almost 6 players from the Leos are close to terminating their contracts with the Portuguese outfit and among them is one Rodrigo Battaglia who is being targeted by Wolves.
The 26-year-old expects to follow into the shoes of Rui Patricio and end all formal ties with his current side. Sporting is yet to release an official statement regarding the actions it will take against the hooligans and it’s very own club president, who too had threatened to suspend a few players after their loss to Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Europa League.
The Wanderers will potentially be able to put themselves over the top of some of the existent Premier League clubs if they end up with Rodrigo Battaglia along with the players they have already signed this offseason. Nuno Espirito Santo activated the permanent deals of Willy Boly, Benik Afobe, Diogo Jota and also added Ruben Neves. The Portuguese boss opted against the recall of Alfred N’Diaye despite the influential midfield role he had this past season.
Rodrigo is a central midfielder by trade and could easily park his spot up next to Neves at the heart of the Molineux. He has been capped 8 times by the Argentina U20 side and is a cemented starter in the Sporting team with 57 total appearances this past season. The midfielder contributed with 3 goals and 3 assists.
Rodrigo’s playing career set off with the Argentine outfit, Huracan where he made 68 senior team appearances in 3 years. He was well tested in the Portuguese first division after his transfer to Braga in January 2014.
The 26-year-old faced a few challenges in setting himself up in the Braga ranks and was loaned out to Moreirense F.C., Rosario Central and Chaves for further development. After 3 seasons at the Estádio Municipal de Braga, Rodrigo got transferred to Sporting where he quickly became a prominent figure in midfield.
The Moron-born player was seen in action this past season against teams like Barcelona and Juventus on the European stage. With Rodrigo battling for each and every ball in midfield, Sporting held their own against the continental giants and escaped any sort of humiliation.

Rodrigo already has tons of top-flight experience and will add a different dynamic into the Wanderers midfield. The Wolves faithful should move for the player no matter what the outcome of the current scenario is.
