Jose Mourinho has been a frustrated figure at Old Trafford as he is yet to completely trim the squad to his liking. There are quite a few roles in the first team that need upgrades on and the left-back spot is one that has been haunting the manager for a while now.
While Luke Shaw has not been impressive, Daley Blind and Marcos Rojo are only backups. Ashley Young remained the best LB for the club last season, which saw Mourinho scout for left-backs from all around Europe. Juventus’ Alex Sandro was at the top of his wish list but the Brazilian is now close to signing a new deal, leaving Mourinho stranded. So what can he target now? Here are three left-backs Manchester United should look to sign this summer, having missed out on Sandro:
Danny Rose (Tottenham Hotspur):
Having missed a great chunk of the last two seasons with injuries, Rose is easily one of the best left-backs in England at the moment and is expected to start for the national side in the World Cup in Russia. He is unsettled at Tottenham Hotspur, where the wage system needs a reshuffling and Rose has ever since been linked with an exit. Manchester United have already shown interest in his services and with Sandro no more an option, Rose might be United’s best bet this summer.
Ryan Sessegnon (Fulham):
Though he has no previous experience in the Premier League, young Sessegnon has turned into one of the most exciting youngsters in English football at the moment. He was the most productive defender in the English leagues last season and his ability to play as an attacking winger will impress Mourinho more. He is still 18, has loads of time to establish himself and can be a part of the United squad without much pressure. He will also not be too expensive and can solve this issue at Old Trafford for years to come.

Kieran Tierney (Celtic):
Another young, exciting full-back linked with a move to Old Trafford is Scottish international Kieran Tierney. The Celtic star has been a mainstay in Brendan Rodgers’ side for over a year now and has established himself as one of the most consistent performers in his role in Europe. Celtic managed to keep hold of him last summer but might have to give in this time around and a chance to play for Manchester United might be too much for Tierney to turn down.
