Interest from top Premier League clubs has made Fiorentina push up the price for their prized winger Federico Chiesa. According to reports, Manchester City are also interested in having the Italian sensation at Etihad and they might have to shell out £62m to acquire his services.
Previously his asking price was said to be around £44m but given the frenzy and deep-pocketed clubs chasing him, the Italian outfit has raised up their asking price for the winger. Reports suggest that the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United are after him and clubs from Italy are also monitoring his situation.
At just 20, he has already gone on to represent his nation Italy and joined the list of the father-son duo who have represented their nation. Enrico Chiesa was a striker in his days and he managed 22 appearances for Italian national team between 1996 to 2001.
The Fiorentina winger managed six goals and eight assists in 38 appearances and is touted to have a big future. Chiesa’s preferred position is down the right wing but he can also fill in the role of a left winger as well. He boasts a powerful and accurate shot and that makes him a dangerous proposition in and around the opposition penalty box.
Manchester City had a fantastic season as they sealed a double with relative amount comfort in the end. They won the Premier League title with a record number of points and it seems like it will be tough for their opponents to stop the Citizens juggernaut next season as well. They are still looking to bring in reinforcements and it remains to be seen whether they are serious in bringing the Italian sensation to Etihad.
The likes of Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling have improved under Pep Guardiola and Chiesa might be tempted for a move to the Manchester club as they can offer him Champions League football. However, it is pretty evident that the youngster will have to bide his time on the bench before he gets regular first team playing opportunities.
City also have someone like Bernardo Silva who is a right winger and the Portuguese struggled to get regular starts under Pep Guardiola last season and another signing like Chiesa certainly doesn’t look likely on the cards. Fiorentina’s asking price is also a bit too much and the Citizens shouldn’t pay £60m odd for a squad player. They are also being linked with Riyad Mahrez who plays in that position and it seems highly unlikely that they will go after someone like Chiesa.
