Gareth Bale has reportedly made it to known that he wishes to return to the Premier League if Real Madrid chooses to sell him this summer. Following the club’s 3rd UEFA Champions League triumph, the Welshman had also expressed his intentions to quit the Santiago Bernabeu for greener pastures elsewhere. Bayern Munich’s supposed interest was turned down by the player himself before formal talks could take effect between the club officials.
This should come as a massive boost for Tottenham Hotspur who have been on the prowl to pounce on and get their former wonderboy back ever since the 2017/18 season started. Rumours were circling around in the January window as well during which the winger was recovering from an ankle injury.
Zinedine Zidane decided to keep his £100m-rated man in the squad for at least the end of the season and got rewarded handsomely for his decision. Bale was desperate to prove himself to the fans and the manager after spending consistent bouts on the sidelines with recurring injuries.
Whenever called upon, the 28-year-old delivered with results and always looked like his classy old self. The final at Kiev was a different story altogether as the wingman silenced the world with his acrobatic back volley in the 64th minute to give his team the lead. Bale subsequently scored from distance to register a brace for himself and the Galacticos’ third consecutive European title.
Now the sentiments are different at the club with Zidane stepping down from his position and Florentino Perez searching for an ideal replacement. Bale’s future at the Bernabeu could all depend on the decision of the new head coach and how much value he adds to the side according to Perez.
For instance, the Welshman could go for a ludicrous sum of money but will still be relatively cheaper than some of the younger and fitter options in the market. Tottenham still might just have to splash their entire transfer budget on getting the attacker who still has 4 more years left in his current contract.
Mauricio Pochettino could certainly use the winger in his lineup to start challenging the likes of the two Manchester sides and the rest of the Premier League elites to the league title next season.
Bale will not only be a massive upgrade to the likes of Erik Lamela and Moussa Sissoko, he will also be the perfect fit for the attacking system that Pochettino has in place.
