Rangers are set to part ways with their controversial forward Michael O’Halloran. The 27-year-old was signed from St. Johnstone back in the summer of 2016 when he joined the Ibrox side for a recorded fee of £500,000.
The player has had several run-ins with the authorities at the club since and it is being reported that he may finally leave the club this summer with the Rangers board ready to move him on. He had the first clash with Pedro Caixinha who did not see the player as a part of his plans and O’Halloran was shipped out on loan to his former club St. Johnstone.
The player joined the Gers in 2016 on a four and a half year deal and still has another two years to go. It is being reported that Australian side Melbourne City are interested in securing his services with former Wigan boss Warren Joyce keen on the player. Both clubs are in talks to prepare a permanent deal for the player but the Gers are waiting for the Australian side to stump up the cash before any deal can be struck for the player.
After the sacking of Caixinha, when heads changed and the club brought in Graeme Murty, the player’s luck still continued to run dry as he ended up playing only one minute of football under him. The final controversy was the biggest blunder any Rangers player can ever hope to make as O’Halloran was spotted sitting amongst a group of Celtic fans during the Old Firm Derby.
The player’s agent later went on to claim that it was a mistake and he went on to regret the decision but it is unlikely to be forgiven by the passionate fans so easily. Rangers, it seems have had enough controversy from one player and is ready to move on without him.
The Gers have appointed a new boss in Steven Gerrard. The former Liverpool player will be hoping to have a similar impact as the one he had at Anfield as a player and lead the side to a better season this time around. He will be hoping to challenge Celtic’s dominance in the Scottish top flight and hence needs to work on improving the Gers squad. Removing fringe players like O’Halloran will certainly make funds available for new players who can help Gerrard win matches at Ibrox.
