Reports in the media are claiming that English Premier League new boys Wolves are interested to test Sunderland’s resolution for Paddy McNair by making a move for him. Brighton and Hove Albion have already made a bid for the former Manchester United star but failed to convince the Black Cats to sanction a sale for McNair, according to reports.
Latest reports are now confirming that the winners of the Sky Bet Championship from the last season, Wolves are interested in signing the 23-year-old. He is a versatile player who can play in multiple positions but generally fills in as a central defender. He is also capable of playing as a right back but is more than capable of filling in as a holding midfielder as well.
With so many clubs interested in the Northern Irishman, new owner Stewart Donald took to the internet to signal his intentions about the player. Donald went on Twitter to write: “No truth. I have not heard from Brighton since turning down their offer. “I don’t want to hear from them would prefer Paddy stay. Also there are other clubs that are closer to our valuation than Brighton so I’m not sure where that story has come from. We will see.”
The player has been extremely impressive last season despite Sunderland playing so poorly. He has also expressed his desire to play in the Premier League and that might encourage Wolves to make a move now. On Michael O’Neill’s comments that he’s a Premier League player, McNair said: “It’s great when you have a manager believing in you.”
“I love playing for Michael because he gives me so much confidence. I’ve learned a lot off him since I first came into the squad and I think I’ve definitely improved. If I can get back to the Premier League, that would be great, but I just want to concentrate on these Northern Ireland games and look at that afterwards.”

As for Wolves, the Championship winners played some extremely entertaining football last season to win the title and look a fresh side under Nuno Espirito Santo. The new owners at the club are raring to bring in fresh talent that will help Santo and that might see them make a move for McNair as well. A good move for both Wolves and McNair here but Sunderland will not want to see their star man go.
