West Ham United have confirmed the signing of Dan Kemp to a new long-term contract, extending his services till the summer of 2021. The 19-year-old left Chelsea to sign with their London rivals two years back and has not looked back ever since.
After penning down the new deal, Kemp was quoted,āIām absolutely delighted to sign a new contract extension with West Ham. Iām really, really happy and Iām really looking forward to the future.ā
āItās exciting obviously that there is a new manager in charge to impress and thatās of course what Iāll be trying to do when Iām back fit. You want to impress him in every aspect. I want to be training with them and the aim is to make my debut so thatās what Iāll be pushing, for now, Iāve signed this new contract.ā
Kemp felt hard done after going down to a cruciate ligament injury earlier in the 2017/18 season. He made a blinding start to the campaign scoring twice and furthering 2 more assists for the clubs U23 side.
He also scored against Swindon Town in the Hammer’s Carabo Cup group stage game in early August to help his team win by 3 goals to 2. Kemp admitted that he was playing his best football at the time and was given a huge boost from his selection for the countryās U20 team.
He has received 5 caps already for the England youth sides and made 33 total appearances in the Premier League 2. With a brilliant left, Kemp has shone during his spell at East London and is ready to impress the new boss, Manuel Pellegrini.
The teenager is still in the midst of his rehabilitation program, working closely with Tom Smith (Head of Academy Sports Science and Medicine) and Matt Bramhall (Head of Academy Athletic Development) to get back to full fitness. He has high minded ambitions of quickly breaking into the Hammers first team squad.
Pellegrini might very well call upon the youngster, given the lack of established wing options he presently has. West Ham dodged a relegation scare in the previous campaign by 9 points and will have to look towards making squad improvements.
