Aston Villa are to undergo a massive offloading process as they look to reduce costs following their failure to earn promotion to the Premier League. Steve Bruce will be left with mostly all his best academy graduates filling up the starting XI next season. However, one highly rated prospect, Andre Green is attracting a lot of attention from Southampton and is reported to already be subject to a £3-4m bid.
Villa owner, Tony Xia is facing unforeseen obstacles while trying to save the club from financial ruin. It is being said that the Birmingham-based outfit has been fined for late tax payment bills which itself totalled to around £5m.
Xia has been funding the side with £6m seed payments each month but is currently finding it difficult to pull money out of China. While different plans are being laid down, sending players out on loan or selling them is certainly the best escape route.
The Premier League would have added around £170m in advertisement revenue had the Villains beaten Fulham in the Championship playoff finals. Now, Bruce has to cut the wage bill in half before he can take charge of the 2018/19 season with whatever is left of the current team.
Green is one of the most prized assets at Villa Park who impressed plenty of other English outfits last term. The 19-year-old operates from the wing positions and has been part of the club for over a decade now.
He played in 5 league games last season, 10 in total and managed to register 2 goals. He impressed the Saints with his composed finish in the U23s 4-1 win in January. The Englishman, unfortunately, had to spend majority of the campaign on the sidelines with a hamstring injury but still managed to showcase his attacking prowess.
Packed with all the right traits of a world-class winger – speed, agility, ball control, skill and crossing ability, Green could become one of the more prominent figures in the Villa squad or even in the Premier League if a transfer is sanctioned in the near future.
Southampton are looking to completely overturn their previous season woes by making improvements to their current lineup. Green could enjoy a lucrative period at St Mary’s if given the opportunity to shine.
It could also turn into a massive stumbling block if he finds himself fall below the pecking order, behind the likes of Dusan Tadic, Sofiane Boufal and Nathan Redmond.

Maybe the player himself should continue his development under Steve Bruce and fully prove his worth through an entire regular season.
