Antonio Conte may or may not be at the helm of Stamford Bridge next season but Chelsea are busy planning for life for the next season, trying to lure some of the finest stars in Europe to London. One such player they are reportedly close to landing is Jean Michael-Seri.
Having made a name for himself in his first season in Ligue 1 with Nice, the 23-year old is a gifted midfielder and a complete player, wanted by some of the biggest clubs in Europe. The likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and even Barcelona were interested in his signature last summer while Borussia Dortmund have retained their interest in him this summer.
However, it is understood that the Blues are now front-runners for his signature. A story from RTL Sport (via The Sun) in France claims that Seri is in advanced talks over a move to Chelsea and that a deal will go through in the upcoming days. So is Seri a decent option for Chelsea?
A central midfielder who loves to dictate the tempo of a game, Seri is a confident player with great technique and understanding of the game. He is quick to sniff out the danger in the middle of the park and is usually productive with his passing over a short or a long range. He is exceptional over a dead ball, can break defences in open play and was the creator in chief for Nice last season.
He is disciplined and is always looking for the ball that opens defences up. He is quick to cover gaps in the midfield, and though is not the strongest in the air or with his tackling, is more than happy to sit back and soak up the pressure.
He can convert defence into attack in the blink of an eye and alongside N’Golo Kante in the midfield at Stamford Bridge, he will definitely turn into a genuine match winner at Chelsea.
He has two goals and five assists in the domestic league in France and is statistically one of the best in the business at the moment in his role. He also has 16 appearances for the Ivory Coast national side and is an established player and a certain upgrade over the players currently at the Bridge.
Chelsea have Danny Drinkwater and Tiemoue Bakayoko who joined the club in the last term. But both players have been far from impressive, leaving Cesc Fabregas as the best partner to Kante. It goes without saying that Seri can walk into the first team and will compliment Kante, adding a cutting edge to this Chelsea side.
