Wolverhampton Wanderers are being linked with Swedish fullback Alex Beijmo who currently plies his trade for Swedish club Djurgardens. The 20-year-old has even been linked with a move to Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach. The West Midlands club were interested in having him in the January transfer window but they didn’t go through with the deal in the end.
Wolves will look to continue their rise in English football and Nuno Santo will be looking to bring in reinforcements in the summer. They have already secured the permanent signing of Willy Boly and Benik Afobe and the Wolves seem hungry for more.
Djurgardes sports director Bosse Andersson recently confirmed Wolves’ interest. He said, “It’s true that we were in talks in January with Wolverhampton and we know there is still Premier League interest for him.’’
He further added, “It’s going to be a big deal whenever it happens. Then what’s left remains to be seen, but everyone understands that he will cost a lot of money.”
Djurgardens got him for £450,000 last year when they picked him up from second-tier champions Brommapojkarna. The youngster has continued his rise in Swedish football and is considered as one of the best talents in his position. He can even play in a more advanced i.e in the right midfielder role and that could be one of the reasons why Wolves are interested in having him.
The 20-year-old played only 15 games in all competitions for his side last season but was impressive in the latter half of the season and went on to warrant a regular place in the first eleven.
He has gone on to represent Sweden at various youth level tournaments and is already touted to be a Swedish international in the near future. It is being reported that the Swedish club will demand £1.75m for their academy product and with Wolves securing promotion to the Premier League, that shouldn’t be too much of a big deal for them.

Nuno Santo has often deployed three centre-halves at the back who are supported by two wingbacks on both the flanks instead of the traditional fullbacks. Wingbacks are expected to bring more width in the attacking half of the pitch which in turn creates more space for central players. They have used Matt Doherty in the right wingback role and signing of Beijmo will certainly bring in more competition for places and will add more depth to the squad.
